The history of Azienda Primosic takes root in the nineteenth century with Carlo Primosic, who, at the end of the century, supplied traders with his wine that was transported from the hills in the south of the Austrian-Hungarian Empire to the capital city, Wien.
As soon as the historical traumas of the two world wars had ended in the first half of the twentieth century, the Collio started to bloom again and so did Primosic thus starting to bottle its own wines in 1956. The revival came about thanks to Silvestro Primosic, who today still dedicates the same passion to the vineyard devolpment programme, which was planned with a view to paying the utmost attention to the territory and, in particular, to giving value to the autochthon varieties.
With the passing of time, the winery grew and became more skilled. During the sixties, the winery started paving its way towards well deserved national as well as international acknowledgements for the quality of its wine. In 1967, the tradition of the Collio that unites people, families and wineries, brought about the establishment of the Consorzio Collio and Silvestro Primosic is one of the first members. The "number one", the first bottle of the Consorzio is produced by the Primosic winery and is still today its pride and joy, valuable evidence of the winery's long history, and of the path taken with a view to achieving quality and respect for the land.
In 1979, Azienda Primosic built a new cellar, which today is still the headquarters of the winery. In 1989 the programme relating to quality selection was started, leading to the production of those prestigious wines, which just in their names (Klin or the Gmajne line) echo the ancient oral tradition and historical definitions of the allotments that were to be used for the Primosic grapes.
Ten years later, in 1999, the business was reorganised, aiming at an expansion and modernisation of the structures, an important step to support the project of zoning the best crus. In 2003, the business concentrated on further improving the high level archieved. As part of the company philosophy, the utmost expression is that of an accurate selection within the wine varieties that can fully emphasise the uniqueness of their origin, such as Ribolla Gialla from Oslavia, Murno - Chardonnay, Gmajne - Sauvignon Blanc, Belvedere - Tocai Friulano, Klin - Collio Bianco, Metamorfosis - Collio red reserve.
Today, Silvestro Primosic continues to run the business with his sons Boris Primosic, who is in charge of administration and the cellar, and Marko Primosic, who plans the winery's activities and is in charge of sales.
The Collio is a land of great white wines. It produces prestigious monovines such as Sauvignon, Pinot Grigio and Tocai Friulano, as well as some of the most valuable crus such as the Collio Bianco. The territory's long wine-producing tradition is today enhanced by giving value to the autochthon vines, which are the result of centuries of activity. A perfect example of this is the Ribolla Gialla, which Primosic has been producing with great passion for a long time. The variety has been deep-rooted for centuries and has such a potentially high quality that the wine has soared to reach the top of the most appreciated international white wines. Nevertheless, Primosic brillantly expresses the territory's best quality and the results of the processing evolution in the cellar with its Collio Bianco. The result is a product of absolute prestige, a wine that is in a leading position in the production.
