Cecchi is the historic brand-name of a major company, but more than anything else it's the name of a family. From 1893 up to the present day the Cecchi family has been a participant in the evolution of the world of wine both as a product and as a philosophy, and it has lived, understood and assimilated all the changes that have taken place within it in over a century.
It all began with Luigi, when he started his activity as a 'palatista', or a wine taster. During the first half of the 1900s Luigi was joined by his son, Cesare, and began to take the first steps in the creation of a marketing and distribution activity beyond the national borders.
As time developed and Italian wine was increasingly found on tables all over the world, Luigi - grand-son of the first one - a man gifted with great farsightedness understood that the paths to success included new plant, new technologies, the search for new land, and new markets: the word of the day was innovation.
At the helm of the business today are Cesare and Andrea, who, drawing on the teachings of their predecessors, are taking the work forward with a passion and a professionalism aimed at the achieving of excellence.
Cecchi understands that the interaction between the earth and technology yields its greatest results when enriched by a team of men and women who are capable and skilled.
That's why Cecchi, a family controlled business, has always believed in the importance of its human resources, making use over the years of their great professionalism.
The team is constantly committed to understanding a world that is changing, to presenting a product of excellence for a market that is ever expanding and conscious of quality.
Today Cecchi has about 300 hectares of vineyards, spread over four different areas of central Italy: Chianti Classico, San Gimignano, Maremma Toscana and Umbria. The common denominator of these lands is a vocation for the vine, which is also the starting point of Cecchi's philosophy.
In modern viticulture the starting point is the land; from the sixties up to the present the work in the vineyards has continued without interruption, and the associated buildings have been rebuilt and redesigned as part of the upgrading of the land. Not least in importance is the construction of the new management centre on the Castellina in Chianti premises completed in 2006.
Sustainable development is a principle that a modern enterprise cannot afford to neglect. So Cecchi is committed to ensuring that the technology employed in the entire production chain is compatible with protecting the environment.
This takes the form of compliance in connection with atmospheric emissions, waste recycling, a phyto-treatment plant for the regeneration of waste water, targeted use of treatments in the vineyards and much more besides. For Cecchi ISO 14001 certification is part and parcel of life, a vehicle on the road to transparency of operations in environmental matters.
Cecchi wines are the fruit of the land. Care for the vines is intense and constant, because it's the grapes that arrive in the cellars that will guarantee an excellent starting point for the quality being pursued.
During the production phase high technology is king. The company is equipped with the most advanced systems in order to optimise every single part of the production process.
Attention to detail is what led Cecchi to become one of the first companies to achieve ISO 9001:2000 certification in 1997, BRC (the British Retail Consortium) accreditation in 1999, and IFS (the International Food Standard) approval since 2005, all certifications that guarantee quality control for national and international markets.
It can safely be stated that today a glass of Cecchi wine is enjoyed in Tokyo and Rome as well as in New York, London or Berlin. If you pass through Nepal or Auckland, and then by chance find yourself in Moscow or Caracas, there is nothing to prevent you from asking for a good bottle of Cecchi Chianti Classico, in Rio too as well as Tallin or Oslo, and above all to drink it and enjoy it because we cannot afford to lower our quality control standards for shipping either.
