Description

From documents of the Ripatransone municipality, we know that this land had been tilled by Serafino Capecci, with hard work and love, already since 1905. Serafino was followed in the task by his son Vincenzo, called "Nzì 'Nzì", a métayer since 1922. The actual farm was established in 1974, when Vincenzo's son, Domenico, became the owner of the land. In 1988, the grape growing enterprise, that had always produced its own wines, started to market them in bottles, aware of the land's vocation and the grape varieties' potential, as well as of an increasingly demanding market. Simone - the fourth generation - continued improving the wines from the Piceno and family tradition, with great interest and enthusiasm. The San Savino concern devotes constant attention to research and innovation in order to promote some valued traditional, autochthonous grapes - Montepulciano, Sangiovese, and Pecorino.

These wines, that are the historical roots of Italian oenology, have ancient ancestors, if it is true that the first to grow these grapes were the ancient inhabitants of the Piceno territory.

Before going into the technical details, through which we describe each wine, we would like to spend some words about their names and the considerations that prompted us to choose them.

For our wines, we wanted names and symbols recalling the ancient Piceni civilization, in order to highlight the typical character of our products in the deep-rooted relationship with our territory (it is not by chance that the official name of the places where our holding is situated is Crinale dei Piceni).

The Piceni were great farmers and warriors. Their olives, apples and wine have been appreciated throughout ancient times up to the present day. Historians of the Roman world report that the Piceni taught the Romans how to leaven bread, and that they even had a flourishing trade of their produce with Gallic and Germanic peoples.

We feel a little bit Piceni, not only because of our ancestors, but above all because of our bond with the land and its fruits.

Our vineyards spread in the limited geographic area called Rosso Piceno Superiore, overlooking the medium Adriatic Sea, at 8 km from the coast, between the rivers Tronto and Tesino, with an eastern-southern exposure, on sunny hills interspersed with forests, olive groves and steep gullies, at a height of about 250/300 m above sea level and protected by the Appennini mountains to the west.

The Capecci family's farm has a vineyarded surface of 35 hectares, about 70% of which is planted with red grapes and the rest with white grapes.

More than one third of the red grape vines are aged 35-40 years, and it is with pride that we control their state and evolution.

They are a mainstay in our qualitative standard.

Our concern's philosophy is our wine - keeping intact the qualities, perfumes, colours, flavours that we inherited from our history.
